Wool "mug rugs"

What is it with me and circles!???  They certainly make their way into many of my projects.   These "mug rugs" (coasters) were made with a double layer of boiled wool, then embellished with a random machine stitch.  Several of the pieces incorporate hand-dyed wool to give a more interesting texture.

Boiled Wool Mug Rugs

I'm up to my eyeballs in half-finished projects so I decided to take today to tackle each of them one at a time - and try to stay focused!

Among the many items my neighbor Suzanne donated to me - contributions to my growing stash of fabulous fabrics and yarns - was a beautiful half-finished wool sweater with a lovely intricate pattern.  After felting the sweater in a hot wash, I turned the wool into these colourful double-layer "mug rugs" - and finished them off with a blanket stitch in a complementary colour.

Bits and Pieces

I vowed that nothing in my stash of yarns and wools will go to waste!  These little mug rugs (coasters) were made from the smallest leftover bits of wool used in other projects.  Rustic, and especially great for cottage or cabin, each piece is double layered, machine stitched, and finished off with complementary blanket stitch.

Hot Pads and Mug Rugs

When the weather outside is frightful ..... I'm happy to stay in and work away on my various projects.  I have some wonderful old wool blankets that I've collected recently - most of them very well worn and no longer suitable for use, other than to upcycle them into something new and useful.  These hot pads and mug rugs were made from the last viable portions of a great old charcoal/blue striped blanket.

Each piece is double layered, machine stitched, and finished with a blanket stitch.

Hot Pads and "Mug Rugs"
Available:
4 square hot pads (measure approx. 8" x 8"), $15 each
2 sets of four coasters (measure approx. 4" in diameter), $20 per set
4 round hot pads (measure approx. 10 1/2" in diameter), $18 each

Felted Wool Heart Decorations

This pretty heart shaped decorations were made from a previously loved - but shrunken - boiled wool sweater.  I love the sweater's variations of colours and designs.  The hearts have been stuffed with polyester filling, blanket-stitched, and embellished with buttons from my vast collection.  Lovely for a Christmas tree, or a year-round decoration hung on a doorknob .......

Boiled Wool Star Decorations

As long as the temperature hovered around 35 degrees C, it didn't seem  appropriate to post these star decorations.  But today is chilly and fall-like, so it seemed like a good idea to start hinting that the holiday season is coming!

These primitive little boiled wool stars were made from recycled sweaters, embellished with buttons, and are all ready to hang.
