The Stashbuster Challenge!

They say it can't be done, but I'm determined to bust through my stash of cut strands that have accumulated over the course of many, many rug hooking projects.  Some would call the designs as "hit or miss" ... but, when hooking these hot pads, I found it quite a challenge to create pieces that were well balanced in tone.  I love the results!

My big wicker basket of strands is substantially lighter!  I probably have enough to hook one more hot pad!

Hooked Rug

The colours in this rug are a real departure from my usual palate of neutrals and reds, and I'm really happy with the result!  My friend Marg, an interior designer, taught me that every room needs a touch of black.

Rug Hooked Chair Pads

After a long hot and humid spell, this area was hit with a terrific storm that took out power for miles around, and for several days.   Once I'd found my morning coffee source ( my morning coffee is very important!), I moved all my rug hooking supplies out to the back deck and spent three idyllic days outside, working on my latest projects.  Fortunately the weekend was comfortably warm and sunny - it was a real treat to be out there for such long stretches.

When I first started rug hooking a few years ago, I really enjoyed making hooked chair pads, and they proved to be very popular.  A hooked piece on a special chair in any room - living room, dining room, bedroom.... - adds a lovely touch of colour and charm.  I took advantage of the power outage and three days on the deck to complete these two chair pads.  They're off to market tomorrow!

Needle Felted Wall Hanging

Many, many years ago, I loved to paint with watercolours.  It's not an art I pursued, but this form of needle felting definitely brings out the "watercolour painter" in me.   This little floral design was done on a wool backing that I spot-dyed in shades of greens/blues and yellows.

Rustic Decorative Window/Garden Art

I've always been attracted to rustic old windows - and they're getting harder and harder to find!  I've turned some of these precious "finds" into chalkboards, photo frames, and one was turned into a lovely bed headboard.  This old window has been turned into a pretty piece of indoor or outdoor art!  It would look beautiful hanging in a window; on the patio; or in the yard to add some sparkle and enhance your beautiful garden.  The recycled glass pieces have been attached to the window with clear, outdoor silicone.
