Felted Wall Hanging - Tangled Garden

I've been working on this wild 'tangled garden' for a few weeks.  The background piece was wet felted; the garden was needle felted with bits of dyed rovings, and hand-dyed wool yarns.  Then the whole piece was embellished with buttons and beads from my growing collection!

Wet Felted Wall Hanging

Wet felting offers a whole new opportunity to combine fabulous colours and textures.  I posted this piece a few weeks ago after a day of felting with a group of friends.  It's now finished and ready to hang. I absolutely LOVE the rich jewel tones of reds and turquoises in this felted hanging.

More Fun With Wet Felting!

What a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend!  Gorgeous weather - sunny, warm, still an abundance of colourful leaves clinging for dear life to the trees!  I spent one wonderful day working on this new wet felted wall hanging.  Layers of grays and browns were layered with bits of sky blue and white snowflakes to create a wintry backdrop for this jolly old-fashioned snowman with black button eyes!

I LOVE WET FELTING!

I was thrilled to take part in a wet felting workshop led by international felting artist Andrea Graham.  The workshop was hosted by another talented felting artist, Chris Ferguson, who also provided the group of eight with a wonderful lunch!  It was a truly inspirational day!

layers of raw rovings;  felting embellishments that were made earlier in the day are set on top; ready to start felting

a thin layer of mesh is laid over the whole piece; wet down with water and soap; start tamping down to take air out of rovings, and set the piece in place

lay a thin layer of plastic over the wet and soapy piece; run water all over the top of the plastic, and rub in a circular motion with soapy palms........ this process takes about an hour!
