Time for a Giveaway!

I've been using this quiet time to do some stash busting of my oodles of yarns.  This is the first of what may end up being several colourful lapghans (a small afghan/throw) - and I thought it would be fun to have a giveaway.  If you're interested, just comment on the post and I'll add your name for a random draw to take place on Monday.  Since it will be a curbside drop-off or pick-up, I'm sorry I'll have restrict this to Peterborough/Lakefield area friends.

Two more paintings - recently completed.  Again, the paintings are created finding interesting shapes on a splattered canvas, and then painting out the background.  I especially love the colour combinations in these pieces.

Rag Rugs

Needless to say, I've had a little extra time on my hands lately.  In preparation for market season, and the day I can open my studio to the public again, I've continued "production" on several more rag rugs.  These are runners - in varying widths and lengths. Durable, washable, perfect for low- and high-traffic areas. New paintings

In this time of isolation, I am so grateful for my bright, sunny studio where  I've been wheeling my chair back and forth between my rug making table and my painting table  My studio continues to be open by appointment - and, FYI, business can be conducted on the front porch!  (Just joining the ranks of several Lakefield and area businesses that have launched front-porch business for their customers.)

In the meantime, here are some of the negative space paintings I've been working on lately.  I love the challenge of finding interesting shapes and patterns on the splattered canvas and painting out the background to highlight these patterns.

New painting

I've decided to bite the bullet and start posting some of my paintings.    The process is a form of negative painting - and, as anyone who knows me and my rather "persnickety" attention to detail -   it's really helping me to loosen up in my work.  This piece is acrylic on 12" x 12" wood canvas.

My creative journey

My posts have been few and far between this year.  As I continue, and enjoy, making my rag rugs in anticipation of market season, I finally answered a call that's been tapping me on the shoulder for a few years now.  Many moons ago, I loved to paint - mostly watercolours - but that was put aside when I entered the working world.  I finally got my paints out again; and have been happily painting (this time with acrylics) for several months now.  My work is not realistic; but representative; and I'm going about creating the images using a negative painting approach.  Thrilled to say I just sold this piece!

Rag Rugs!

I spent a few hours this week photographing some of my latest rag rugs against the backdrop of the very fabulous East of Eden Antiques in Woodview.
