Rug Hooked Bench Pad

This recently finished floral wool bench pad was hooked in rich tones of blues with a black background.  It has a primitive air, but would fit nicely into any decor - country, cottage, or formal.  It would work equally well as a bench pad (including a piano bench), or table runner.  As always, I'd be happy to arrange a house call in the Lakefield/Apsley/Peterborough area to ensure the piece works well in your home.  Contact me at rdyer@nexicom.net

Rug Hooked Hot Pads & Chair Pads

My "fun with tea bags" art consumed a fair bit of my time over the holidays, and now I'm finally getting around to posting some pics of my newest hooked pieces.  There seems to be much renewed interest in this primitive art;  our newly-formed Kawartha Rug Hooking Guild already has about 30 new members, and I've also been invited to give a few beginner workshops at Cedar Lane in Lakefield.

These two hooked hot pads have been done in the "hit or miss" style .... a great way to use up the growing stash of cut strips left over from earlier projects.  Each measures 8" in diameter.

Mixed Media/Tea Bag Art

I took a wee break from rug hooking over the Christmas season to work on something new.  I've always loved the art of mixed media, so the idea of incorporating little paintings done on used & dried tea bags (and the odd coffee filter) really appealed to me - and inspired me to get out my watercolours and inks again. Each simple illustration has been mounted on textured stretched canvas and sealed with a thin coat of wax.

Rug Hooked Bench Pad/Runner

I love the graceful lines of this hooked piece.... it would look perfect on a little window seat or bench - or as a runner on a wooden table.

Rug Hooked Chair Pad

Another new hooked piece is this rustic chair pad.  The subtle background in shades of gray is offset by the warm pop of colour in the floral design.  This piece measures 12" in diameter.  $65.

Rug Hooked Hot Pads

Having experienced such glorious warm weather lately, I hesitate to say that I've been busy getting ready for two upcoming Christmas shows.   The 9th Annual Artisan Show & Sale, in support of Jamaican Self-Help, will be held November 21 (10am-4pm) and November 22 (11am - 4pm) at Mark St. United Church in Peterborough.   Christmas at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield celebrates its 10th year on November 28 and 29 (10am - 4pm), with donations at the door to the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) and the Lakefield Food Bank.

Here are a few small hooked pieces I've just completed - they're colourful, functional, and a great price point at just $35 each.   Each hot pad is hooked with wool on burlap, and measures approximately 8" in diameter.

A few new rug hooked pieces

Here are a few new hooked pieces - all hooked outside in the beautiful warm weather that blessed us throughout the month of September!  It's chillier now, and autumn is quickly taking over.....but now the beauty is in the stunning golds and reds of the woods around me.

Floral Hooked Rug

I spent many happy hours working on this piece outside in this glorious end of summer weather. The rug made its appearance at yesterday's Lakefield Farmers Market - and happily, it was sold by the day's end.

Hooked Rug

The lively floral design of this traditional hooked rug hints at spring and summer, but the neutral background makes it a perfect year-round accent to any room.    (Wool hooked on burlap.)
